MAJORITY FOR SMUTS

SOUTH AFRICAN SENATE MINOR PARTIES’ SUPPORT (Reed. Nov. 18, 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 17. The Times’ Capetown correspondent says that the Smuts Government has a majority of two in the Senate, thanks to the support of the Dominion and Labour Parties.

The results give the Smuts Party 12 seats; the Dominion Party, two; Labour, two; Hertzog supporters, nine; and Malan supporters, six.

Moreover, six senators who are being nominated will support General Smuts, while four senators elected to represent the natives are also expected to vote for the Government, which is thus assured of a comfortable majority.
