Among sportsmen, golfers arc noted for their splendid achievements in raising large sums by organised elTorl, for 'charity, states, au Australian writer. Many thousands of pounds are contributed to various charities through various golf clubs and societies, bui the largest, individual contribution during the last few years has come from the liquor and allied trades annual golt meeting. Since the club arranged its first charity gymkhana in 1931 a total of £3003 has been, raised for various hospitals. The event began in a small way and grew to such an extent that in 1937 £IOOO was rained for' the Children’s Hospital
