WAIMATA BRIDGE

LOAD REQUIREMENTS A report on negotiations proceeding in connection with the reconstruction of the Waimata bridge was submitted to the Cook County Council to-day by the finance committee. “The county engineer informed the committee,” the report stated, “that the position might be that there would not be any deficiency, for it was more than possible that the £I2OO set aside for the Waimata bridge would not be expended. Great riiificulty was being experienced in getting plans for the bridge approved. “Discussions were taking place between the Public Works Department and the Commissioner of Transport with the object of determining some standards of loading for various classes of roads. “After full consideration of the matter, it was resolved that it be a recommendation to the council that a letter should be written to the Commissioner of Transport pointing out that the bridge under discussion with the county was on a blind road giving access to not more than six ratepayers‘and that a 10-ton load would meet, the requirements." The report was adopted.
