GISBORNE STORES
WOOL PILING UP DIFFICULT POSITION The hint of an almost immediate appraisement contained in the above message from Auckland will be received with a great deal of satisfaction by growers and firms in Gisborne and on the Coast, for in some cases stores are becoming congested. In Gisborne, it is estimated that approximately 5000 bales are in store, and if the first appraisement is delayed for any time the position in the stores will be very difficult. Tokomaru Bay has approximately 1200 bales in store, and it was expected that the full capacity for valuation purposes would be reached before tiie end of this week.
Only small quantities have come forward at Tolaga Bay, which has been appointed an appraisement centre also, and not more than 200 bales was in the Harbour Board's shed there at the end of last week. However, large quantities should be available shortly. The showery weather during the past few weeks has held up shearing somewhat, but the operations are well forward. It is expected that Gisborne should handle up to about 40,000 bales during the season, Tokomaru Bay from 12.000 to 14,000 bales, and Tolaga Bay 5000 to 0000 bales, making a grand total of up to 00,000 bales for the whole of the district. Shearing ip the district is considerably earlier than in southern parts of the Dominion, and by this time in the past shipments have been made from Gisborne and Coast ports to connect with the London January sales. Because of there being no arrangements yet for appraisements, no wool lias been sent overseas so far this season.
According to a statement made at a meeting in Ruatoria on Saturday, appraisements in New Zealand were not expected to commence for another three weeks, tout the advice received in Auckland was apparently released later than the Ruatoria information.
