START TO BE MADE

NO CIVIL SERVANTS HANDLING CONDITIONS FLEECE TO BE SKIRTED SPEEDING UP DELIVERIES (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Arrangements have been made by the Government with members of the Woolbuyers’ Association to appraise the wool clip now coming forward from the farms, according to information received at the week-end by the brokers. They have been advised also of various conditions associated with the handling of the wool preparatory to delivery under sale to the British Government. One of those, which is important from the aspect of the producer, is that all fleece wool must be skirted. If skirting is not carried out on the farm it must be done in the brokers' stores. Terms Not Disclosed The terms under which the woolbuyers will appraise the clip have not yet been disclosed. It is believed that the remuneration will be on a poundage basis and it is stated that there is no suggestion that the appraisers will become civil servants under the scheme, nor wRI they be required, it is stated, to train civil servants as appraisers, this being one of the conditions, according to a current report, that was embodied in the original offer by the Government and which was rejected by the buyers. Between 8000 and 9000 bales now await appraisement in Auckland. The actual work of” valuing will start on a basis of an

average of 12.',d net to the grower. That the basis of the price is net to the grower is a point the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. W. Nash, had not previously made clear and it will be received with satisfaction in the industry, and its determination will possibly contribute to the speeding up of deliveries into the stores.
