Mr. J. Figg, Waipaoa, who is in hospital in Gisborne, is progressing favourably.
After completing 40 years in the Public Service Mr. A. T. P. Hubbard, inspector of stock in Masterton, retired last week.
The Rev. Father Michel Bardouil. secretary to the Catholic Melkite Metropolitan of Beirut, is visiting Auckland. He will remain for some time to work, among the Syrian people who have settled in the Dominion.
Mr. D. Campbell, who for many years has been with Messrs. KirKcaldie and Stains, Limited, Wellington, is taking up his residence in Gisborne and is joining the firm of C W. Izod, electricians.
• A visit to the East Coast is being paid by the Bishop of Waiapu, the Rt. Rev. G. V. Gerard, who attended a garden party in Waipiro Bay on Saturday. Yesterday he was to visit Kaharau, Hick’s Bay and Te Araroa. To-day lie will be at Hicks Bay, tomorrow at Whakaangiangi, and on Wednesday and Thursday at Tologa Bay.
By his departure to join the National Tobacco Company, Limited, as tiie Gisborne representative, the stall of Messrs. Murray, Roberts and Company, Limited, lose Mr. F. W. Dobbie, one of its most popular members in both business and sporting circles. While expressing regret at losing such a valued servant of the company, Mr L. Miles, in making a presentation to Mr. Dobbie. congratulated him upon his appointment and wished him every success in his new position. Complimentary reference also was made by Messrs' C. L. Margoliouth and A. W. Harper to Mr. Dobbie’s sterling qualities and his popularity with both staff and customers. The recipient of the presentation suitably responded.
