HERTZOG CRY

Vhy enter the war AFRICAN NEUTRALITY “POOR OLD GERMANY” “LYING PROPAGANDA" (Reed. Nov. 3, 1.50 p.m.) BLOEMFONTEIN, Nov. 2. The former Prime Minister of South Africa, General J. B. Hertzog, in a speech to-day said that the fact that South Africa sold produce to England was no reason why the Union should enter the war on England’s side. “Poor old Germany took £7,000,000 worth of the Union’s goods last year,” he said. “Why should we not be like the Swiss and maintain neutrality in a war beyond our boundaries and sell products to who ever takes them?” The Free* State congress appointed General Hertzog as the nominal leader. The constitution proclaims that the aims of the party are the attainment of a republic by constitutional means and the banning of further Jewish immigration. General Hertzog told the congress that the allegation that Herr Hitler was out for world domination was, the "most infamous, lying propaganda.”
