POOR DEMAND

BREEDING BULL, SATE

SUPPLEMENTARY FAIR

DISAPPOINTING PRICES

HIGHEST ONLY 22 J, GNS

The bottom has fallen out of the market for breeding bulls in the Gisborne district for the present, as a result of the great reductions in the herds following the severe drought of the past summer and autumn. This was demonstrated at the supplerrTentary bull sale conducted at Matawhero yesterday by the Poverty Bay Stockbrokers’ Association. There was an entry of approximately 100 and a very small attendance of the public.

Prices realised were very disappointing, none being comparable with those obtained at bull fairs held earlier in the season.

For Hercfords. Mr. A. Kirkpatrick secured the three highest prices of the sale, 22£gns„ 20gns. and 17Jgns. The next highest were Ugns. and 12gns. obtained by the estate of the late Mr. A. 11. Wallis. Other vendors’ best prices were: — Waimoana Stud Farm, llJgns; Mr. J. C. Field, lOJgns; Mr. H. W. Barker, BJgns; Mr. F, E. Humphreys, llJgns. Many Hercfords brought from 7gns to Bgns.

In the Aberdeen-Angus classes. Mr. Chas. Matthews secured lGgns and Ugns, the balance of his entry making 15gns. Other highest values secured were: Opou station, llJgns; bulls bred by Mr. Gibson, Kiwitea. 12Jgns; bulls bred by Mr. A. M. White. Ngatapa, Olgas; Mr. G. V. Smith, Ugns; Mr. H. Davenport, Ugns; Mr. D. P. Cameron, lOgns; Mr. McLean, Otoko, lOJgns. Many bulls were passed in, and several purchased were destined lor the freezing works. It seemed evident that the public had satisfied their requirements beforehand.
