PARENTS’ LEAGUE
MEETING IN WAIROA
TRIBUTE TO STAFF (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. Reviewing the activities of the Wairoa Parents’ League at the annual meeting, the chairman, Mr. H. G. Jamieson, commented on the valuable work carried out in the past year and expressed his pleasure at the close co-operation of league members and the teaching staff of the District High School.
Mr. Jamieson paid a tribute to the acting-headmaster, Mr. A. S. Telfcr, who, at all times had worked in harmony with' the members of the league. The active support offered by the staff of the school, the school committee and its delegates to the league was also commended by Mr. Jamieson. The initial apathy of parents towards the work of the league had, been overcome and the membership now stood at 170, all of whom were united in their efforts to make the Wairoo School one of the most beautiful and up-to-date in the Dominion.
Officers were elected as follows: —' President, Mr. C. R. Sainsbury; chairman. Mr. 11. G. Jamieson; secretary and treasurer, Mr. C. W. Tomlinson; trustees, chairman and secretary; auditor, Mr. J. M. Angus; committee, Mesdames C. M. Pilkington, Webber, Langley, Nightingale, E. Ashburn. H. G. Jamieson, D. Mclntyre, B. Chase, Scherp, Messrs. C. W. Tomlinson, A. Lawton, T. F. Kilbin, D. Mclntyre, C. N. Doig, J. Fish, J. Paku and S, Paku.
The need for additional accommodation on the school area was discussed and the matter was deferred, Mr. Ashburn informing members that there was a possibility of additional land being made available.
