CLAIM TO FALKLANDS
ARGENTINE MOVEMENT
BRITISH FORCE RESENTED
(Kims Tel. Copyright—lfiiiliHl Press Assn.)
(Reed. Oct. 24, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK. Oct. 22.
The Buenos Aires correspondent of the New York Times says that the dispatch of British volunteers to the Falkland Islands, which is regarded as a violation of the Argentine’s neutrality, has led to the formation of an influential “committee for the recovery of the Malvinos" which is the Argentine name for the Falkland.-;.
The organisation signalises a change of popular opinion at the beginning ol hostilities. Champions of tile movement for reclaiming the Falkland Islands favoured dropping the claim until the end of the war on the grounds that opposition to Britain would brand them pro-German, which was not desired. The Falklands’ defence force is evidently designed to prevent a German attempt at occupation similar to that of Admiral von Spec in the Great War.
