The meeting of the Rongomaitapui Women’s Institute held in the dining hall in To Araroa on October 14, was well attended A sociai afternoon was decided upon instead of the annual display. A small donation was made by each member towards the Red Cross boxes. Competitions for the month resulted: Taniko work —Mrs. Ngatai, 1; Mrs. Bristowe, 2. Bottle of preserved fruit. —Mrs. Ngatai, 1. Luncheon brought a successful meeting to a close.
“Oliver Road.—Plans are being prepared for the realignment and grading of 52 chains of the hill on this road.
Mangalu Riding
“Mangamaia Road.—The metalling of one mile towards Barron’s will be started as soon as the grader is available to trim up this portion of the road.
“Mangahamaia Road.—This road will be graded up within about two weeks.
Waipaoa Riding
“Tarndale Road.—The contractor for metalling 100 chains has made a start, but has been held up owing to weather conditions. “Makara Road. —The surfaceman has cleaned up portions at the cliff to allow traffic to use this road. “River Road.—A man has been put on to clean up the fords for summer use.
Ngatapa Riding
“Taumata Road. —This road will be graded up when the grader has completed Hihiroroa road.
Kanakanaia Riding
“Kanakanaia Upper.—Some slips occurred and a gang was sent up to clear these off. “Waihora Road. —Plans are being sent in for approval for regrading one mile of Parehaka Hill. Karaka Riding “Pipes were put in front of Mr. Symons’ and filling placed over them.”
