WAIKOHU COUNTY
ATTENTION TO ROADS CLEARING OF SLIPS ENGINEER’S REPORT (Special to the Herald.) TE KARAKA, this day. The clearing of a number of slips was reported by the county engineer, Mr. A. G. Lucas, to the meeting of the Waikohu County Council yesterday. The report stated: —
Motu Riding “Motu Highway.—Piles are being driven at the Waiwhero bridge site. “Koranga Highway.—The contractor for the Koranga bridge should be ready to put in the concrete deck :shortly. The quarry gang is shifting to the Fails quarry.
‘'Front ’Road. —Most of No. 13 scheme men have been taken off this road to go on to farm work. “Moanui Road.—A section of the road dropped out and extra labour was put on to widen the road at this point.
“Otipi Road.—A slip occurred on this road, and was cleared off to allow mill traffic to proceed.
Waihuka Riding
“Front Road—Several slips occurred near Mangatawa, and extra labour was sent up to clear these for motor traffic.
“Swarbrick's Road.—No. 13 scheme men have now been taken off this road, and the breaking of the metal is being completed by the council’s staff.
"Rakauroa-Tahora Road. The metalling and filling of depots on this road have now been completed, and the gang is shifting to the Koranga road.
“Hihiroroa Road.—This road has been opened up where large slips occurred during the floods, and the grader will be sent there as soon as Oliver road has been completed.
