U-BOAT COMMANDER

(Rccd. Oct. 19, 2.50 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 18.

It is now reported from Berlin that the commander of the U-boat which sank the Royal Oak was Lieutenant Commander Prien, not Captain Doenitz, as previously stated. Herr Hitler presented him with tho knight cross ot he order of the Iron Cross, which is the highest decoration which may be conferred in Germany on a member of the forces.

Lieutenant Commander Prien reported in detail to the Fuehrer on his Scapa Flow experiences. HenHitler then entertained the commander and crew at lunch at his flat.
