COMMUNIST DISPUTE
PARTY IN BRITAIN DISMISSED SECRETARY LONDON. Oct. 12. The dismissal of Mr. Harry Poliitt from the •general secretaryship of the Communist Party illustrates how the Stalin and Hitler "wedding” has played havoc with the "party line" elsewhere. Tiie dismissal was the outcome of bewildering contortions, which finally twisted up the wavering British party line. It was a battle of manifestoes. A manifesto of September 21 declared tiie Communist Party’s readiness to take part in any struggle, political or military, to secure the defeat of Fascism. This was .followed by Mr. Poliitt's pamphlet. "How to Win the War." A manifesto of October 7 declared, "The workers have no interest in this unjust war." Mr. Poliitt .stands by the first attitude, but the “party line, right or wrong," clique declares that the first manifesto failed to take into account certain factors.
