MEETING OE COUNCIL. STOCK WATERING PLACES INSPECTION ON HIGHWAY • . (Herald Corresiumdent.) The monthly meeting of the Uawa County Council was held in Tolaga Bay on Monday, those present being the chairman. Mr. J. McNeil. Crs. A. Donald, D. 11. Hawkins. A. 11. Reeves. S. D. Reeves, C. E. Smith and P. T. Weeks. The No. 4 District Highways Council wrote with reference to the watering of stock between Tolaga Bay and Pouawa. The engineer was asked to make an inspection of the road with a view to finding watering places for stock. The Post and Telegraph Department advised that it has been decided to withdraw the claim for damage to an underground cable. The Cook County Council wrote agreeing to carry out maintenance required in the section ot Black s road in the Cook County,, and that consideration was being given to the amount that could be found towards restoration of flood damage. The engineer was authorised to let a contract for fencing the new deviation at Mangaheia bridge approaches. It was agreed that the Parana la settlement road should be topdressed. and that the engineer should be authorised to rcmetal the road in front of Mr. J. R. Lincoln's shop, Post Office and hotel. . The engineer also was instructor, to carry out improvements on Miller’s road, providing some written agreement v/as made with the ownIt was agreed to recommend the Tolaga Bay Returned Soldiers’ Association as an authorised agent under the patriotic purposes emergency regulations and to deal with any farewells, and if the Returned Soldiers' Association desired a representativemi the council to assist, that Cr. Simto be appointed. Engineer’s Report The engineer. Mr. C. Percy, reported as follows:--"Arakihi Riding—Though somewhat handicapped by weather conditions, good progress is being made with the Arakihi road metalling conraci. Ail the s paw Is required have teen carted on to the road, ana .-pawling is now in operation. The road throughout has been graded to the second river crossing, and is in gcod order. Several wash-outs have been reformed and two new concrete oipe culverts have been laid on thcKiore road. The old Kiore bridge has been practically rebuilt and should now give service for many years. “Tauwharcparae Riding.—The contractor lias practically completed the Huanui formation job, and the metalting contract is also nearing completion There are a number of slips to be removed at the Tuarua deviation. The road here was completely blocked l’cr a day cr two. but is again open, to traffic. An inspection war made recently throughout the whole length of Tauwharcparae road. There are three points on this road that are particularly in nec-d of attention to give all-weather through traffic. They are Reeves' bush, Loisel’s woolshec and the Mangamana.
"Mangahcia Riding.—All roads arc 'n fair eider. A start will be made when conditions permit to ear: shingle from the Mangatokerau pit to a dump. “Mangatuna Riding.—All roads ar-. in fair order, with the exception o ! the Kaiaua road, this being bare and rough. The grader will be used there when available. "Hauiti Riding.-—All roads were recently regraded, but owing to a lack of topdressing and the recent heavy rains most, of the surfaces present a very rough condition. “Tolaga Riding.—A continuance of patching pot holes on the bitumen surfaces will be resumed when weather conditions permit.”
