WIDE REPRESENTATION

MR. NELSON’S FUNERAL One of the largest similar gatherings for many weeks in Gisborne this morning attended the funeral of the late Mr. John Francis Edward Nelson, the 24-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Nelson, Willow street, who died during the week-end in tragic circumstances. There were 09 cars following the hearse from Willow street to the Taruheru cemetery and the deep sympathy of many others was represented in the large number of floral emblems. There were many representatives of the various clubs in which the late Mr. Nelson had been a well-known figure, including the Gisboi’ne Rowing Club, Wainui Surf Life-Saving Club, Gisborne Young Businessmen’s Club, Captain Cook Lodge, and Gisborne Savage Club. The services at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. H. A. Gould, and one of the deceased’s friends, Mr. Jack Stevens, gave a sympathetic rendering of “In the Land of the Sweet Bye and Bye.” At the graveside a lodge service was read by Bro. A. W. Hambling. The pall-bearers were Messrs S. W. Bruce and D. F. Muir, Wainui Surf Club, Messrs. K. G. Monk and T. N. Bright, Gisborne Rowing Club, Messrs. N. Beattie and E. Sharp, Captain Cook Lodge. Messrs C. Hume and P. Tilley carried the wreaths.
