BAN ON COMMUNISTS
DECREE OF C. 1.0. CHIEF
BLUNT WARNING (Reed. Oct. 18, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 16. The labour editor of the New York Times, in a message from Detroit, states that the leader of the Committee of Industrial Organisation, Mr. H. L. Lewis, after repeatedly denying that there was any Communist influence within the organisation, is reported to have declared war on Communist sympathisers within the organisation a few hours before the announcement of the transfer of Mr. Harry Bridges. Mr. Lewis bluntly warned the executive board that immediate dismissal would follow any attempts to introduce Communist policies. It is stated that other changes are made, or are being made, but Mr. Lewis is seeking to avoid publicising the purge.
