TAXIS AND CARRIERS
NEW LICENSING PLANS The efleet of the new licensing arrangements for taxis and town carrying services on the Gisborne Borough Council was conveyed to the council at its meeting last night by the town clerk, Mr. W. M. Jenkins. “Under the provisions of the Transport Law Amendment Act, 1939,” he said, “taxi and town carriers’ services, formerly licensed under the council s by-laws, in future will be licensed by the Crown under the Transport Licensing Act. “The number of vehicles affected is as follows:—Taxis, 17; town carriers, 20. The resultant loss of revenue to the council is £54 per annum.”
