BIRD SANCTUARIES

BOROUGH RESERVES PRESERVATION AIMS A decision to proclaim all the borough reserves as bird sanctuaries was reached by the Gisborne Borough Council last night, in order to preserve bird life. Cr. R. Morse, who moved in that direction, said that much destruction had been done by means of pea rifles among the birds in the borough reserves, and the council should do all possible to encourage birds. It was once believed that a nightingale was in the district, and it would be a pity to destroy such a bird. The council’s decision was unanimous on the matter.
