MILITARY SERVICE

PLEA FOR COMPULSION TAIHAPE lUs.A. VIEW “A lot of men are going who shouldn’t be going, and a lot of those who should go are hanging back,” said Mr. J. Bosomworth, at a meeting of the Taihape branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, when the subject of compulsory military service was being discussed. “I know of one man with 10 children who has enlisted,” he said. He had spoken to hundreds of men, and practically all of them were in favour of compulsory military service. After other members had stated their views, the meeting decided to advise New Zealand headquarters that it favoured compulsory military training, and to suggest that the opinion of other branches be obtained.
