LONDON PICKPOCKETS LOSS OF PASSPORTS N.Z. MAN’S DILEMMA (Eluc. Tel. Copyright—United I’ress Assn.) (Reed. Oct. 13, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 12. A gang of passport pickpockets operating in London at the outbreak of war has hindered the return of many New Zealanders and Australians. Mr. W. R. Holmes, Wellington, who was a victim of the gang, arrived at Sydney in an overseas liner. He has been a virtual prisoner aboard for nearly two months. He was held on the liner for six hours before being allowed to land for transhipping to New Zealand. Mr. Holmes said: “I lost my money, passport and steam ship tickets at St. Pancras Station. I reported the matter to a Scotland Yard official, who,said the gang had secured scores of passports from passengers' pockets.” ' Mr. Holmes added: "I have been banned from going ashore at every port, but my troubles will really begin when I get to Wellington.”
