WEEK-END CRICKET
COSMOPOLITAN CLUB PRESIDENT’S TEAM WINS SCHOLLUM’S GOOD 82 it The annual match between teams led by the president and vice-presi-dent of the Cosmopolitan Club was held during the week-end, and resulted in a win for the president’s side by 32 runs. The match took place on the Kaitaratahi cricket grounds, and ideal weather conditions made the outing a particularly pleasing one. Batting first, the vice-president’s team put on a good score of 134 runs, to which E. Bridge contributed 56 before Beer bowled him with a ball which did not rise off the matting. Beer took six wickets during the innings for 36 runs. The president’s side started none too well, and eight wickets were clown for 78 runs, but Jock Scholium, the former Poverty Bay representative player, attacked the bowling with all his old enthusiasm and had 82 runs to his credit before he was caught out by Ingram off Francis. His stand was mainly responsible for the success of the president's side. The satisfaction felt in the win was expressed by Mr. C. Batson, president of the club, who offered his congratulations to the losers for the keen game they had given his side. Mr. S. Grant responded, as vice-president, and made particular reference to the performance of J. Scholium. The Cosmopolitan Club expects to have its strongest side for years during the coming season, and will have a heavy schedule of matches, the chief of which will be that with the Napier Workingmen’s Club. In four matches played to date, the Cosmopolitan Club has won two and lost two, and the renewal of the competition, probably in February, is being looked forward to with keen interest.
