COMPETITION PLAY POVERTY BAY CLUB OFFICIAL CLOSING DAY The official closing day lor the Poverty Bay Golt' Club will be observed' next Saturday, but members will be able to carry on with friendly games and continue playing during the summer season. The Gisborne Park club will not close until the end of tire month, and the Turanganui club has chosen November 4 on which to close its winter season. In a Stableford bogey match played on Saturday by members of the Poverty Bay club, A. F. Salmon (13) 36 proved the winner. The other best scores were P. Tureia (8) 35, A. E. Guy (plus- 2) 35, R. I. Harrison (2) 35, and F. Fenwick (3) 32. The final of the August Handicap tournament was won by M. W. Howe (10). who defeated J. T. Dodgshun (0) 1 up. A par tv of 21 players played an enjoyable inter-club match during the week-end in Wairoa. The Gisborne party was all square in the singles and one down in the four-ball play. GISBORNE PARK CLUB Ideal weather with fast, and true greens favoured good scoring in the tankard test round. J. Malcolmson, gg—23—s6, played excellent golf to win from L. B. Stuart, 78 12 66, on the recount. Other good cards were; —j. Madden, 88 —19—69; G. Ardern 90—21—69; F. Dobbie, 82—12 70; C. Mackay, 91-20-71; R T. Porter, 84—12—72; V. Hay, 95—23—72. .T McMillan and Mrs. Williams retained the Lunkcn Cup. finishing all square with J. Madden and Mis. Brown. The next challengers are Winter and Mrs. Winter. In the semi-final games of the Rffssell Cup series F. Dobbie and P. Robertson beat G. Ardern and R. Porter, 2 uo. L. Eade and G. Montgomery defeated A. S. Fearnley and J. Broad, 1 up. The final will be played next Saturday. Mixed Canadian Foursomes The Sir Trufay King memorial mixed Canadian foursomes, playea during the week-end, resulted in. a consideiablc sum being raised to augment the funds. P. H. Dow and Miss L. Caddies’ Tournament Tire tournament for caddies was played on Saturday morning from the men's tees and surprisingly good 'form was shown by the boys. The best gross round was that of Percy Davies, who was out in 41 strokes and. despite a disastrous eight at the eleventh, finished with ioui bogeys for an 84. It was excellent golf for' a boy. His handicap of 16 gave a net 68, which was also the best net score. L. Davies, 95—23—72, was second and Kelvin Davis, 90 li /3, thud Danny MacGachic, 94 —20 —74, took "ourth place and'R. Normanton, Ron Muir, and E. Brown all received trophies. J. MacGachie secured the trophy for the keenest competitor. At the conclusion 0 f the round Mr. D. A. Wells presented the trophies.
