MANY MARRIAGES

FIGURES FOR DUNEDIN War must, inevitably have interesting sidelights, and the abnormally large number of marriages reported during the past month doubtless can be attributed to the outbreak of hostilities, writes a Dunedin corresspondent. September is usually regarded as a “quiet” month so far as weddings are concerned, but the total of 112 marriages solemnised during the month can be compared with the figures for the two "rush” times of the year, Easter and Christmas, when 116 and 147 marriages were registered respectively. Last month’s total is almost double that for the corresponding period of Inst year, when there were 07 registrations.

Evidently young women, do not give up their dreams of orange blossom and lace without protests, however, for the total number of registrar’s office ceremonies is not above normal.
