GISBORNE RAINFALL
SEPTEMBER FIGURES TOTAL OF 4.771 N. WETTEST FOR FOUR YEARS Last month was the wettest September Gisborne had known in the past four years and the second wettest September in 12 years, the rain coming at an opportune time following an extended dry spell. The month’s total at the aerodrome weather .station was 4.77 in. for 14 rain days, compared with, an average of 2.99 in for September, estimated over GO years. A full year had passed since there had been a monthly aggregate as large as that recorded last month. September 24 was the wettest day during the month with a reading of 1.57ih., a figure which exceeded the total for the whole of August. The following tables gives the rainfall figures for the first nine months of 1937, 1938 and 1939, together with the averages for the different months estimated over 60 years: —
