FIRE AT MORERE
STORE AND POST OFFICE BUILDING DESTROYED £IOOO DAMAGE DONE (Special to the Ilorald.) NUHAKA, this day. A lire occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, when the general store and post office at Morere fvas burned to the ground. Mr. L. South, the occupier, was awakened about 4 a.m. by the noise of falling timber and the crackling, of life. An immediate investigation showed that the store was a mass of flames and owing to the intense heat it could not be approached. Mr. South aroused his neighbours, who willingly gave assistance in saving Mr. South’s home, which is 4Cfyds. from the site of the store. Although the store and contents were insured, Mr. South will be a heavy loser as he was carrying big stocks. The property was- owned by fhe .Morere Motor Camp Company, Wellington. The If dr aid’s Wairoa representative reports that the damage caused by the fire is estimated at £IOOO. It h'ad not been ascertained this morning whether the mail had been destroyed. Mr. South was working in the store until 8.30 : p.m. on Saturday and the cause of the fire is not known.
