MAORI CHILD DROWNED

FALL INTO A STREAM The death by drowning of a 14 months old Maori girl, More Onekawa, daughter of Mr. M. Onekawa, of Nukuhou North, was the subject of an inquest held in Whakatane before the district coroner, Mr. G. A. Brabant. The mother stated that she placed the child in a box outside the house while she was getting the mid-day meal. About five minutes later she found the box empty, and her husband discovered the child dead in a shallow stream near by. A verdict of death by drowning was returned.
