SMALLER ENTRY

AIMNUAL JERSEY SALE TOTAL OF 41 FUREBREDS SOUK WF1.1,-KNOWN STUDS r.Loui) of famous strains A smaller entry lias been ntlrnotod. for the Poverty’ Bay Jersey Cattle Club's annual sale, which will be held on the Gisborne Showgrounds next Wednesday.

Forty-one lots are listed, compared with 55 last year, which was o.njv one short of the previous year's record for the club.

Last year created a record in prices, and the average for the 34 sold was £2G O.s 4d, which was more than £6 better than the previous record ot £l9 18s (id created in 1936. This increase in values is an indication that Gisborne farmers arc beginning to realise that some of the best quality is obtainable from studs in the district.

Average prices secured at the annual sales since. 1932 are given below

Manuluke Stud One of the prominent breeders with an offering of distinctive quality is Mr. Jas. Haskins, whose Manutuke Stud has won a high name because it contains among the, best butterfat types available. This .statement is supported by expert opinion, for at the National Jersey Show and Sale in Hamilton last year his previous herd sire, Ivondalc Wail's Hero, secured the grand championship and was sold by Mr. Haskins at 105gns. At the same sale he purchased his present sire, Ivondale Bronze Laddie, of the same famous strain as his former sire The last three of the former's progeny will be offered at the sale on Wednesday. Design Stud The blood of a champion butterfat bull, the proven old sire Sprfnglea Owler Again, and of a champion show bull, Meadowland Squireen, are in Mr. E. R. Bull’s offering from his Design Stud. Two sons of each of the bulls mentioned are to be offered on Wednesday, and as the dams are of great quality and with high butterfat records, the Design Stud’s sale offering should attract more than usual attention. One of the dams has a V.11.C. certificate and another is a production gold medalist, while _ the other two also have won recognition for outstanding performance.
