PRICE OF SUGAR RISES

BRITAIN’S WAR BUDGET (Reed. Sept. 28, 2 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 27. As a result of the increased duties announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir John Simon, when presenting the war Budget in the House of Commons to-day, the retail price of sugar is being increased by Id per lb. The maximum wholesale price of sugar is being increased by 9.4 per cent. The whisky and tobacco trades are considering the position. The opinion in the lobbies was that the Chancellor’s measures were very severe.
