N.Z. NAVAL PAY
INCREASES GRAN" " OFFICERS AND RATINGS SUPERANNUATION PLAN GOVERNMENT APPROVAL (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day Arising from the report of the com mittee on naval pay ana allowances, the Government has approved an increased scale of pay, the Ir-creakes ■briefly being 9d a day for able seamen, lOd a day for leading ratings, and Is '4d a day for petty officer ratings, with corresponding increases in the rates of progressive piay. In order to relate the pay of warrant officers to the increased Fates for ratings, the present rates of these officers on promotion will be increased by Is 6d a day, the three-year rate by Is 3d a day. the six-year rate by Is a day, and the nine-year Fate by 9d a day. .1'
•A superannuation scheme as being introduced intended to supercede the system of deferred pay for all ratings who join on or after January 1, 1940, and, if they so desire, the men now serving can be included in the scheme, in which case they would draw the 1940 scale of pay. -Ratings coming under this 1940 scale will con. tribute 5 per cent of their pay to the fund. ’ •Wi
No alteration will be made ;to the present regulations for deferred pay for men now serving, unless they elect to come under the new scheme.- The Government is considering further recommendations relative to social amenities and other questions.
