FINANCES SOUND

SERVICES CRICKET CLUB ANNUAL EEPORT As a result of the workings of the past season the Civil Service Cricket Club is able to report being in a sound financial position. The annual report of the club, .to be presented to players and supporters at the annual meeting this evening, places much of the credit for this satisfactory position with Mr. A. E. Bi.gnall, who recently relinquished the position of hon. secretary to the club.

“The club, after a most enjoyable season's cricket, finished in third position to Gisborne Club and G.H.S. 0.8. Blues,” the report states. “During the first round one-day matches were played, the club winning five and losing four, one match being drawn. One match in the second round was played under these conditions, while the leading six teams played two-day games for the remainder of the competition. Civil Service met with more success, losing only one game. The congratulations of the club are extended to Gisborne Club for a fine performance in winning the championship for the first time, and also to G.H.5.0.8. Blues, the runners-up . Individual Performances “The batting average for the season was headed by C. Sebire, whose total of 321 runs included a brilliant and forceful century. Sebire’s average was 24.64. Next in the averages was B. Lee, with an aggregate of 277 runs and an average of 19.78 runs The best bowler was H. Sebire, whose wickets were taken at an average cost of 8.8 runs per wicket. E. Bignai). His relinquishing of the ofl'ice was much regretted and it would be only fitting to place on record our thanks for the service which Mr. Bignall has rendered over a long period. The present sound financial position of the club is due very largely to his untiring efforts. “Two members of the club, Messrs. J. Burrows and W. Higgs, have been transferred on promotion and arc lost to the club. While their departure is to be regretted, we wish them every success. Congratulations are extended to Messrs. N. Dallas and G.
