MANY LIVELY BOUTS ONE ENDS IN SSEC. HEENEY WINS AGAIN BATY OUTPOINTED (Per Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, this day. The finals were reached in most of the sections of the New Zealand amateur boxing championships yesterday afternoon and evening, and the tournament will end to-night. There were many lively bouts last evening, but the most dramatic was in the middleweight contest between W. Enright, Southland, and R. Branch, Auckland, It was expected to provide the best bout of the day, but it was over in five seconds and with one blow, Enright, using a terrific right hook. In the lightweight bout between D. McGirr, Christchurch, and S. Morris, Wairarapa, in the afternoon, the judges gave, the wrong decision in error, and m the evening they reversed the decision, giving it to Morris. Both are now out of the tournament, however, with injuries. Results were:— Bantam. —J. Jenkins, Auckland, beat T. Hoggarth, Grey mouth, on a foul; H. Foote, Wellington, beat L. Salmon, Southland, on points.
Flyweight.—B. Maddern, Taranaki, beat W. Drew, Otago, on points; C. Worth, Auckland, beat G. Hastings, Mianawa'tu, technical knock-out; A. Cameron, Rakaia, knocked out C. Cameron, Rakaia, knocked out C. Larson, Wellington. Semi-finals: B. Maddern, Taranaki, beat A. Cameron, Rakaia, on points; T. Hoggarth, Greymouth, beat C. Worth, Auckland, on points.
Featherweight. — M. Parr, Otago, beat R. Davis, Waipukurau, on points; A. Byrne, Ilutt Valley, beat L. Parsons, Manawatu, on points: L. Pennington, Auckland, beat W. Brown, Southland, on points; ,G. Thomas, Taranaki, beat T. Baty, Gisborne, on points.
