SHOOTING GALLERIES
OPERATION AT SHOWS GISBORNE ATTITUDE With a view to protecting itself against probable claims for accidents as a result of the conduct of shooting galleries, the Poverty Bay A. and P. Association to-day decided to secure information from other Show societies in regard to what action they proposed to take.
A discussion on the matter arose after the reading of a letter from the Taranaki association regarding injuries received by a Show patron. Mr. H. G. Smith moved that unless the proprietors of shooting galleries were willing to 'take out a comprehensive insurance policy, they should not be allowed to operate on the showground. He said that the association must protect itself in case of accident, otherwise it might he involved in a heavy claim for damages.
The secretary, Mr. W. E. Chamberlain, suggested that the association could avoid liability for the negligence by appointing an authorised person to thoroughly inspect shooting galleries before allowing them to operate so that negligence could not be proved against the association. • '
Eventually, .it was agreed to write to the Manawatu and Hawke’s Bay associations to ascertain what action they proposed taking.
