MOVE BY RETAILERS
SATURDAY HALF-DAY DECISION MADE IN WAIROA (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. A decision has been made by approximately 95 per cent of the shopkeepers in Wairoa to observe the weekly half-holiday on Saturday, and it is proposed to begin with this arrangement on Saturday, October 7. The late night, starting in the first week in October, will be observed on Fridays. The decision of the shopkeepers to abandon the Wednesday half-day in favour of Saturday was made following a meeting which was held last Friday evening to form a Wairoa Re-r tailers’ Association. Since then nearly all the retailers signified in writing their intention of closing on Saturday afternoons. Saturday, September 30, therefore, will be the last Saturday on which these shops will be open in the afternoon. The object 'of beginning the new arrangement in October is to allow ample chance of advising the public generally of the change-over and at the same time giving plenty of opportunity of making any adjustments which might -be involved in the alteration. The move to form' a Retailers’ Association m Wairoa has received enthusiastic support and nearly all the business people in the borough have joined up with it. The officers of the association are: Chairman, Mr. R. Dryden; deputy chairman, Mr. T. Sweetman; secretary, Mr. R. A. Mac Kay; committee, Messrs. C. Watson, J. Foster, A. E. Crane, L. Manning. J. Jones, C. Andresen, S. Southerwood, A. G.' Mayo, M. Claxton, 33. G. Winter, and R. Herbert.
