“HANDLES” OF BEER

TWELVE-OUNCE RATION SIXPENCE IN CITIES (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The decision of the Price Investigation Tribunal) fixes “handles” of beer at (id for 12 ounces in each of the tour main centres and increases the price of quart bottles and “riggers' by one penny. Draught beer is increased by 6d a gallon in each of the four centres with a retail limit of 5s 6d, whicli was the previous price in Wellington. "Shottting” is to remain at the discretion of the individual licensee. In a report to the Minister, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, the tribunal notes that the Licensed Victuallers’ Association put forward a proposal to standardise “handles” at 12 ounces for 6d. The question of size was not within the jurisdiction of the tribunal and except in the case of Auckland and certain hotels in Dunedin, it means no change in price, being the same as 10 ounces for sd, which was the previous rate. An important, feature of the decision is that the trade, includ ins breweries and hotels, will bear a portion of the increase in taxation.
