NAPIER’S GENEROUS OFFER
MIGHT BE HELD IN WAIROA
REVIVING INTEREST
(Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. For the purpose of endeavouring to revive interest in rowing in Wairoa, the Napier Boating Club has advised the Wairoa club that it is willing to forego its right to hold the L.V.A. regatta in Napier during the coming season, and offering to allow the regatta to be held on the Wairoa River. This advice was received at a meeting of the general committee of the Wairoa Boating Club on Thursday evening and it was decided 1 to refer the question to the 'incoming committee.
Members expressed keen appreciation of the Napier Club’s offer and the general feeling was that the club’s prospects for next season were exceptionally bright. Owing to the, poor season experienced last year, the committee decided to reduce all outstanding subscriptions of active members'by half.
General repair jobs were allocated to various members- and l a working bee was arranged for next week-end. A vote of thanks was passed to the shed committee for the good work done during the past month, .and the committee’s thanks were also extended to Mr. A. E. Sharpe for his generous offer to do small repair jobs. The chairman, Mr. J. Scott, referred to the keen interest Mr. Sharpe had taken in the affairs of the club in the past and added that his help and co-operation during the coming year would be greatly appreciated by the members. Members expressed the desirability of co-operating with the Speed Boat Club in the question of holding a combined regatta on the rfver. It was decided that the annual meeting be -held on Tuesday, September 12.
