THE WEATHER Last Night’s Forecast General Situation: An anticyclone extends from Eastern Australia on to the northern Tasman Sea, ■ but pressure remains .relatively low in the south. Forecast: Winds: Moderate to fresh south-westerly winds predominating at lirst, but gradually tending to. north-westerly about and .south of Cook Strait. Seas: In New Zealand waters, rattier rough to rough on parts of the West Coast and in F'oveaux Strait, elsewhere, slight Id moderate but rising later in Cook Strait. Eastern Tasman. Sea: Moderate to strong south-westerly winds prevailing at first, but gradually tending north-westerly in the southern portion; seas, rough. To-day’s North Island Report Reports to-day were fewer in number than usual, ,buL those stations heard from indicated rises in barometric pressure, and generally cooler morning temperatures, with Tiritiri and Cape Maria returning 55 degrees as the top figure, and Opotiki 45 as the low. Winds were from the southwest, except, at Wellington, where calm conditions prevailed, and blue skies with passing clouds were reported from almost all points. Visibility was good to excellent, and sea conditions were smooth to moderate. Wellington had a slight frost overnight. Midday Forecast General Situation. —An extensive anti-cyclone is centred to the north of tlie Dominion. Pressure is low to the south-east and south-west.
