FORMER GISBORNEITE

THE REV. A, H. WALLACE DEATH IN DUNEDIN Many GHbome people of the older generation will remember the Rev. A. H. Wallace, whose death was reported yesterday from Dunedin. 'Mr. Wallace lived in 'Gisborne for several years, and opened the first Congregational Church in this district. He was born in Belfast, and came to New Zealand over 50 years ago to take a post as assistant to the Rev. Mr. McAra. Presbyterian minister. After some time in this post, he retired to become minister of a Congregational Church which had its first premises on the site of the -Seventh Day Adventists’ School in Cobden street.

Subsequently he went to Melbourne, and from there Mr. Wallace received a call to the King Street Church, Dunedin. 'He. retired from the ministry several years ago. While in Gisborne Mr. Wallace married a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Allen, Matawhero. They had two children, a son and a daughter, the daughter having died in Melbourne and the son, Allan, in the Waikato. Mrs. Wallace survives her husband, who was 78 years of age. A sister of the deceased is Mrs. W. Nisbett, Stout street, Gisborne. Much sympathy will be extended to the widow and sister of the late Mr. Wallace.
