SLIGHT ON BOARD

OPENING RIVER OUTLET WAIROA COUNCIL’S ACTION (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. A letter stating that the board regretted the action taken by the council in endeavouring to make an outlet for the Wairoa River without first consulting the board on the question was received from the Wairoa Harbour Board at the monthly meeting of the Wairoa Borough Council. The Mayor, Mr. 11. L. Ilarker, said he did not thinlc it would be any good pursuing the matter any further.

Cr. L. E. Galbraith pointed out that the Harbour Board’s letter stated the action of the council and he wanted to dissociate himself from that. He was a member of the council and he had not been consulted. The first he knew of < it was when he read it in the paper the following day.

He expressed the view that it was a slight on the Harbour Board for the council to attempt work under the board's jurisdiction.

The Mayor stated that the discussion was out of order. The council had endeavoured to communicate with the Harbour Board chairman, but he was away. They had' done the work after consultation with the board’s pilot. This ended th c discussion.
