TOURNEY OPENS TO-DAY

12 TEAMS COMPETING

(Special to the Herald.) BLENHEIM, this day.

Twelve teams have arrived to participate in the New Zealand women's hockey tournament, which is to commence this afternoon. The North and South Islands, are evenly represented with six teams each. The teams taking part are. — A Section.— Eastern Southland. Wairarapa, Wellington, Wanganui, Southland and Marlborough B. B Section.— Canterbury, Marlborough A, Poverty Bay, Auckland, Feilding and Ashburton. The Poverty Bay team arrived last night, after a good trip, and will play Feilding this afternoon. These two teams drew when they met in last year’s tournament in Gisborne, when Feilding was handicapped with the loss of two cf their best players as a result of measles. Eastern Southland are expected to win the A section, and Canterbury and Auckland appear to be the strongest in the B section.
