FINE RUGBY MATCH

CITY DEFEAT RANGERS WHAKARUA CUP REGAINED (Herald Correspondent.) The best display of Rugby seen on the Coast this season was the match between Rangers (Waiapu) and City (Ruatoria) !for the Whakarua Cup and Awatere Banner. The teams were very evenly matched, City winning by 11 points to 8 and so regaining the Cup, which Rangers have held for four years

Rangers’ best forwards were J Kirk, D. Tuhoro and Wi Matahiki. Eru Tuhoro and H. Manuel were the best of the backs, while S. Moana gave a good exhibition as full-back

. McClutchie and W. Hogan 'were the best of the City forwards, the exceptionally fast following-up of the latter enabling him to score and pave the way for another try. T. Wi Repa was outstanding in the backs, while J. Baker and J. Reedy also played a solid game. The scorers for the winners were T. Wi Repa, J. Reedy and W. Hogan, while Wi Repa converted one try. For the losers H. Manuel and E. Tuhoro scored and Manuel converted his own try.

Mr. P. Whaipooti was the referee.

At the conclusion of the game Mr. M. Petiha presented the Cup to the winners and J. Baker, City’s captain, replied on behalf of his team.
