Feed for Stock

Sir,—Two valuable suggestions relating ’ to feed for stock and herdtesting have been contributed by Mr, A. T. Carroll, of the Wairoa Dairy Company. Farmers should consider these suggestions and in future should plan ahead for other seasons. In past years if has been noticeable that there has been a shortage of feed for all classes of stock, more particularly in the Gisborne district. Farmers were

asked to close their paddocks for hay and ensilage, and to invite their neighbours to do - the same, so that time will be saved with the harvesting machines passing from farm to farm. In past years these machines have travelled for miles because there was no system of co-operation amongst farmers and machine operators. The latter have to do this class of work in a short time as the weather permits.

Another important question Mr. Carroll raised was in regard to herdtesting. Too few farmers realise the importance of clean herds and a better class of stock and produce, which in the long run will better them financially and will occasion them less worry. Good feed, together with clean water, sheds and regular attention, will improve stock and the farms. Poor quality spells poor prices. Good quality means good prices and better results. ' O. B. Y. GREGORY.
