RIVER SUBDIVISION

DUAL-OWNED ENTRANCE

APPROVAL GIVEN Approval was given by the Gisborne Borough Council last night to a request from Mr. R. C. Piesse, on behalf of an estate, to subdivide a riverbank property of one and a half acres into two sections with an equal undivided half-share in a right-of-way which was 25ft. wide, the entrance being from Stout street. Each of the two sections would be threequarters of an acre. The Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., said he found in discussion with the town clerk, Mr. W. M. Jenkins, .and the borough engineer, Mr. E. R. Thomas, that there were several other blocks of land in a similar position, except that the section under review had a river frontage. Cr. PI. H. De Costa saw no harm in granting the request, and said that the council had previously granted entrances with widths of 20ft., the width in the present case ibeing 25ft. The Mayor believed that the request was quite a reasonable one. The council would be creating a precedent, but each case could be taken on its merits.

Cr. R. Morse viewed the request with favour and said that such action would encourage people to do something with their unused sections. The application was granted.
