DRAWN FROM THE HAT
COUNCIL’S DECISION
PEEL STREET BUILDING
A decision of the Gisborne Borough Council last night to plant a creeper to cover the Peel street conveniences was reached after a draw from a hat. 'The council was equally divided as to whether the building should be painted or whether it should be covered with Boston ivy creeper, as recommended by the supervising gardener, Mr. T. R. Andrew. Those who opposed the creeper held that a coating of light paint would minimise the danger from traffic of people leaving the building, others stating that the lighting in the vicinity, now greatly im'Droved, left little danger. The Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., moved that the building be painted, but he said that he held no strong views on the matter, and when the voting was even for and agains* an amendment moved by Cr. A. L Singer,, he said he would decide the question by drawing from a hat. By this means the' creeper was decided on.
