POVERTY BAY CLUB COMPETITION FOR LADIES MID-WEEK GOLF FIXTURES About 70 players took part in the qualifying play in the Poverty Bay Ladies’ Golf Club's annual tournament, which opened at the Awnpuni links yesterday. The first 16 players in the qualifying scores were drawn to take part im tlie Championship Cup, the second .16 in the Awapuni Cup, and the third 16 in the Consolation Handicap. This afternoon will see the beginning of the flight handicaps. In the first flight, the eight players beaten in the first round of the Championship Cup will play; in the second, the eight players defeated in the Awapuni Cup will take part, and in the third flight, the eight players defeated in the. Consolation Handicap will take part.

On Thursday morning the semifinals of the Championship Cup, the Awapuni Cup and the Consolation Handicap, wilL be played. A Canadian foursome for players not included in these events or in the semifinals of .the flight handicaps will be played. On Thursday afternoon the finals of all matches will be played and the trophies will be presented. FLAY IN WAIROA Members of the Wairoa Ladies' Golf Club will play an L.G.U. round this week. The first section was played on Wednesday and «the second will be played on Saturday. PARK GOLF CLUB At the Park Golf Club the midweek lady members in the B section will take part in the August vase test round on Thursday and C section a vaSe test round in conjunction with an eleotic competition.
