THE WEATHER Last Night’s Forecast General situation: Pressure is high to the north and low in the south and a series of shallow westerly depressions continues to cross the Dominion. Forecast; Winds between south-west and north-west, moderate to strong, rather squally in exposed positions, especially in the north but otherwise light to fresh. Seas: In New Zealand waters rough north of Farewell Spit, rather rough thence southwards; moderate on the East Coast but rather rough offshore. Eastern Tasman Sea: Fresh to strong winds from a westerly quarter, rather rough to rough seas. Weather: Fine east of the ranges from Otago to Hawke’s Bay, elsewhere still changeable with occasional showers and bright intervals, some thunderstorms possible and snow showers on'
the ranges. Temperatures: Milder ..in the north, cool in the south with frosts to-night. To-Day’s North Island Report The barometric pressure over the North Island rose considerably during the 24 hours ended 0 a.m. today, but it was still a shade below normal irj most places. The .‘‘glass-’ remained steady at Gisborne overnight at 29.5Rin. Mild temperatures were returned in all ■ centres, t,he maximum being 58 degrees at Cape Maria Van Diemen, while others ranged as follows: Gisborne and Napier 5G degrees, East Cape and Tiritiri 55, Auckland 53, Wellington and Tauranga 51, and Opotiki „4,‘1. North-westerly winds prevailed generally and the force was no higher than a fresh breeze at any point. Blue skies were reported at most, places, though if was overcast at Wellington and East Cape, with passing showers at Auckland. The visibility at all points whs good, and the seas smooth to moderate. Midday Forecast General situation. —Shallow woa-er-ly depressions continue to cross the Dominion, but pressure is now rising rapidly over Tasmania.
