GISBORNE CLUB GREEN OPENS SEPTEMBER 2 The committee of the Gistoorne Bowling Onto held its first meeting of the 1939-40 season last night, the president, Mr. iH. Gilmer, presiding over the following: Messrs. L. Kendrew, L. Pyke, E. W. Forrest, H. A. Armstrong, L. Balfour, O. R. Olsen, R. 'Surgenor, W. Neal and R. R. Baldrey, hon. secretary. It was decided to open one green for play on .Saturday. September 2. Games'will ibe arranged on the pick-up system, entries closing each Saturday at 1.40 p.m. The following sinb-eommitlees were appointed: Tournaments, Messrs. Neal, Balfour, Kendrew and Surgenor; matches and competitions, Messrs. Armstrong, Forrest and Olsen; refreshments, Mr. Pyke; green superintendent, Mr. Armstrong.

'Several members commented on the excellent condition cf tooth greens, and said that as a result of the attention aid treatment given them during the winter months the playing surfaces should remain in good order throughout the coining season.

The secretary reported that a telegram conveying good wishes for a successful trip had 'been forwarded to Mr. I. Stephenson on the eve of his departure for Sari Fra«cisco to compete in the international (bowling tournament.
