LEADERS' HARD TUSSLE Muriwai .. 4 goals Wesleyan 0 Muriwai, the men's B grade leaders, had to fully extend themselves to defeat Wesleyan by four goals to nil in Gisborne on Saturday. Clark, in goal, the score was increased to four—nil at the close. Halbert scored two of the goals and G. and D. Nepe one each.

Hie Muriwai defence tvas particularly sound, W. Te Hau doing good work at full-back and Baker and Halbert going strongly in the halves. Clark has seldom given a better display between the posts than during +he latter part of the game on Saturday, and he saved his side repeatedly Dawson was a sound full-back, and the halves again worked hard, Harkes? shaping well. In the forwards Parkin was the most consistent.

School has seldom put up a better display of team work and positional play than during the second half on Saturday, and in the final quarter of an hour the boys kept up an almost continuous attack, resulting in Roderick and Prentice finishing off two of the movemen+s with goals. Roderick showed great promise at inside left, while Walsh, centre half, played with cool judgment. The fullbacks were a very steady pair, with Hewitson taking the brunt of the work.

The YM.C.A. defence was particularly solid,, with Ryan performing well at full back and Ferguson +he best of <he halves. The forwards, hojwever, did not combine at all well, relying ’ n d : v ; dunl effort, which was totally inadequate. Petersen, on the ri" ! ' flank, was one of the most nromishof the younger players in the line SCHOOL ITS GOOD EFFORT H. 5.0.8. .. 6 goals High School B 3 High School B showed further signs of improvement in their game against High School Old Boys, who had to work hard 'to win by six goals to three.
