GOOD YEAR AHEAD
MEMBERS’ CONFIDENCE APPOINTMENT OF COACH KAHUTIA MEETING Bright prospects for the coming season were held out by speakers at. the annual meeting of the Kahutia Bowiing Club, held last evening in the Carroll Memorial Pavilion. The retiring president, Air. C. Jackson, was in the chair and presided over a good attendance of members. The report and balance sheet aroused favourable comment, the good financial position of the club being the subject of congratulations, the -nominations of several' new members were approved by the meeting. Moving the adoption of the balancesheet, Mr. Jackson said that the financial position of the club was a strong one, subscriptions and donations received totalling over £420. Functions id bv the club had been well supported and had contributed satisfactorily to the production of such a sound balance sheet. Socials had brought in £95. a vote of thanks in th s respect being due do Mr. R. Campbell, whose work was worthy of high commendation. The 1 - women’s section of the club ‘assisted notably in the raising oL.nhahce and the thanks of members were due to the ladies.
Mr. Jackson appealed to members to give more active support to the floodlight tournaments, commenting that these games should contribute more materially to the finances of the club. He thanked members for the co-operation, given during the year. In ..seconding the motion, Mr. J.. A. Eaton said that. Ka'hutia was again coming to the forefront, this -being o tribute to the work of the executive officers. Membership was ir..c’easing and members of the right type were being enrolled. The report and balance-sheet were unanimously adopted, support of the opinions expressed being offered by Messrs. C. Holland, P. Fischbach, and C Somervell. Election of Officers Officers were elected as follows: — President, Mr. W. Jackson; vicepresident, Air. R. B. Watt; hon. secretary, Air. C. G. Vail; hon. treasurer, Mr. R. Jenkins; bon. auditor, Air. J. Booth. There were -seven nominations for five seats on the executive, the following being elected: Messrs. R. Campbell, C. Corlet, T. J. Ellis, C. T. C. Hands, and T. Halit. Air. Campbell was re-elected to the committee lor the sixteenth year in succession. Air. R. B. Watt was appointed sole selector. The thanks of the club for his work as an executive officer were tendered to Air. G. A. McKessar, a motion that the retiring officer’s services -be placed on record being carried by acclamation. Life members in Messrs. A. Sawyer and C. Rothwell
were congratulated on their attendance at the meeting. Club trophies won during the season .were presented by the president as follows: —Champion Singles: L. T. Moore. Champion Pairs: Messrs. H. Wootton and R. B. Watt. Dan Barry Memorial Fours: H. Hackett, W. E. Robertson, T. O'Donnell, and E. Dane. Junior: W. McLaughlan. Junior Pairs: W. McLaughlan and C. G. Vail. Taylor Rolph Pennant, for most improved l ' player: R.. Patty. Floodlight Tourney: McLaughlan, Corlet, Campbell and Meredith. Poverty Bay and East Coast Centre trophies were presented as follows: Intermediate Fours: Messrs. S. Gooch, C T. C.. Hands, J. Robertson, and R. Patty. Peace Shield Fours: C. T. C. Hands, C. G. Vail, C. Somervell and J Newton. Champion of Champions Colts’ Singles: C. T. C. Hands. Centre delegates were elected as follows: —Messrs. Jackson, Watt, and Power. The following new members were elected:—Messrs. L. C. Simpson, J. Hignett, T. F. Haisman, F. E. Wilson, H. Downey, E. File, W. Leggett, and H. M. Scott. The matter of appointing official coaches for the season was fully discussed, the advisability of having only one coach being stressed by Mr. J. Newton after three nominations h.ad been received for the position. After a ballot, Mr. P. Meredith was appointed to the position.
