WOMEN’S HOCKEY
NAPIER REP. TEAM CARROLL SHIELD GAME Napier has selected a strong women’s hockey team to travel to Gisborne on August 5 to keep an. engagement in the Lady CorrolL Shield challenge series. The team is as fallows: — Goal. —Miss M. Webster. ' Full-backs. —Mesdames M. Simonson and G. Algie, captain. Half-backs. —Misses J. Campbell and J. Eddy, and Mrs. Smith. Forwards—Mrs. R. Hesketh, Misses A. Waller, T. McPherson, S. Stockman and N, Simonson. Reserves. —Misses J. Dunn and M. Boyd, The team Is regarded as being particularly strong in the halves and. the backs. The junior men's representative team from Napier to piav the Gisborne High School first eleven on the same day is not available yet. The election of officers resulted: —■ President, Mr. IT. Gilmer; vice-presi-dent, Mr. H. A. Armstrong; hon. secretary, Air. R. R. Baldrev; hon. treasurer, Air. W. Neal; committee, Messrs. L. V. Pyke, R. J. Surjenor, O. R. Olson, and L. W. Kendrew; hon. auditor. Air. T. F. Crawford; hon, press reporter. Air ,E. W-, Forrest; centre delegates,, Alessrs. H.'. Gilmer. F. Williams -and IT. . A., 'Armstrong; coaches, Messrs. Al. W. Craig and H. A. Armstrong; selectors for inter-club competitions, Messrs. F. Williams, H. A. Armstrong, and G. Henderson; handicapper, Air. T. F. Crawford. Votes of thanks were accorded to the retiring president, Mr. Waite, and the retiring members of the committee, Messrs. G. Henderson, J. G. A. McGregor and E. R. Beckett for their services to the club. Gold Badge For President On the motion of Air. 11. 11. De Costa, if was decided that the president each year should be presented with a gold badge ■to be worn on playing days as an insignia of his office. Mr. DeCosta’s offer to donate the first badge was accepted amidst hearty applause. The newly-elected president, Air. Gilmer, announced that in association with other sports bodies the club was to support, the candidature of Aliss Norma Henderson in the centenary queen carnival. Mr. Gilmer asked' for all possible support in the campaign.
As only a portion of the membership of the club was present at the annual meeting, Air. J. G. A. McGregor moved that a further general meeting be called for the first Thursday in October. He pointed out that matters of importance to the club were decided at the meeting and the full consideration of these questions by all members would be of benefit to the club. The motion was lost by a substantial margin. It was agreed unanimously to conduct the club competitions on the two-life system, as in the past season.
